Historical Re-enactment

The Malta Tourism Authority regularly holds two shows at Fort St Elmo, Valletta. One is In Guardia Parade, the other is Alarme!

The In Guardia Parade is a historical re-enactment which portrays the routine inspection of the fort by the Grand Bali of the Order of the Knights of St John in charge of military affairs. During the re-enactment the fort's garrison is dressed in its best uniforms and demonstrates to the Grand Ballie its military prowess. The Grand Ballie is saluted by the Musketeers.

Alarme! is a different re-enactment which is held once a month, and portrays the Napolenoc Period in Malta (1798 - 1800).

Military encounters between French and Maltese troops during the French Blockade are held. The story of the French occupation is described in an edited version from the landing of the French to their surrender at the hands of the British. The show is professionally and painstakingly staged by the Historical Re-enactment Group of Malta (H.R.G.M.)

You will be accompanied by your bi-lingual guide to a tour of the fortified city of Valletta - a city built by gentlemen for gentlemen - and put you in the historical mood of appreciating and better understanding the historical re-enactment you will be about to witness. It's just like reliving a past era - of knights, religious orders and conquests!
