The wartime Nissen huts of the former World War II airbase have been converted into showrooms, where you can see all the Maltese handicrafts in one complex and you can watch the artisans at work: silversmiths fashioning filigree, craftsmen beating brass and iron, lacemakers creating shawls and tableware.
The glass factory, probably the most impressive of all outlets, has a lovely range of vivid turquoise vases, glasses and decorative items. You can see the furnaces and watch the glass being blown before browsing in the air-conditioned shop.
You can go through as many artisan workshops as you please, at your own leisure. Grab the opportunity to buy some unique souvenirs for your family and friends back home, and also to keep as a lasting memory of your trip to the islands of history and romance.
