The Silent City of Mdina…a gem of architecture and history …originally built by the Romans, fortified by the Arabs, influenced by the Aragonese, ignored by the Knights, plundered by the French, adored by the Maltese nobility, and protected by the peasants…a history as old as Malta.
After meeting your bi-lingual guide at the hotel you will be transported to the outer walls of the fortified Mdina. From there you will step into the past and discover the legends and mysteries of the Silent City of Mdina.
During your guided tour of the Silent City of Mdina, you will also visit the majestic Mdina Cathedral, the main cathedral of Malta and also the adjoining Cathedral Museum.
Inside the cathedral, the immediate impression is one of grandeur. Though not quite as rich as St John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta, it is nevertheless reminiscent of that church in the gilded carvings, the ornamental side chapels and the paintings that adorn the vault, apse and chapels. Many of the paintings and carvings illustrate scenes from the life of St Paul; the finest is Mattia Preti's mural of The Shipwreck of St Paul, decorating the apse. This was one of the few treasures in the old church that survived the earthquake.
