Conference Facilities

Mediterranean Conference Centre
Mediterranean Conference Centre

The largest conference centre on the Island of Malta is a historic building situated within the capital city, Valletta. It overlooks the breathtaking Grand Harbour on the Eastern side of the city.

The grand architectural style of the historic building of the Mediterranean Conference Centre, with its wide long halls, its intricately vaulted ceilings, its rich stone work, combine to provide a singularly rich and striking atmosphere. It was constructed as a hospital in the late 16th century by the Order of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem, subsequently also known as the Knights of Malta. The halls of the Sacra Infermeria were lined with comfortable beds for the sick and injured who were treated with the most advanced techniques and fed on silver platters irrespective of their social status.

The Mediterranean Conference Centre boasts a total of nine halls over an area of 7,000 square metres. The halls vary in size and are therefore suitable for a range of events The largest and most impressive, Republic Hall, seats 1,400 in theatre style whereas the smallest, La Cassiere, caters for 60 people.

Each meeting hall is equipped with its own independent sound, lighting and climate control. Conference facilities include permanent installations for simultaneous translation for up to six languages as well as audio/visual equipment. The Centre can accommodate over 2,200 delegates in all the conference halls.

Among the many halls are the 155 metres long Exhibition Hall which can comfortably accommodate up to 1,100 persons for sit down dinners, the La Valette Hall, a wonderful banqueting venue which seats 900 guests, as well as the La Cassiere Hall which provides an intimate dining atmosphere for executives or small incentive groups. A mouth-watering variety of catering options are provided by professional outside catering establishments. The Centre can cater for over 4,000 guests for stand-up cocktail receptions.

No matter what the size of the event being organised - from a small presentation to a large conference, a product launch or an exhibition, a convention or even a theatrical performance - the Mediterranean Conference Centre can cater for all your requirements.

It is, however, not the technology and facilities alone that make a success of an occasion. The Mediterranean Conference Centre prides itself on the level of customer support service it offers through its dedicated and highly motivated staff. That personal element which adds the touch of quality to seal a memorable event is very much in evidence. The comprehensive and detailed attention given to its clients has created a fine reputation.

Further testimony to the Centre’s reputation and long experience, which stretches over twenty years, is its membership in international organisations such as the prestigious International Conference and Convention Association, ICCA, which is the world’s foremost association in the field, and the Historic Conference Centres of Europe, HCCE, a leading historic conference centre marketing alliance.

On site there is a permanent exhibition dedicated to the Order of the Knights of St John, who settled in Malta at the invitation of Emperor Charles V in 1530. The Centre also accommodates another of Malta’s cultural landmarks: a theatre dedicated to a sound and vision extravaganza of the long history of Malta called The Malta Experience.

The building’s expert and tasteful renovation was recognised with the coveted ‘Europa Nostra’ award for “superb restoration”, successfuly blending fine old architecture with modern technology. This transformation has created one of Europe’s finest Conference Centres situated at the heart of the Mediterranean.
